The
mean annual temperature barely oscillates
between 24 and 25° C (75 and 77° F) along littoral and sub-littoral
spaces and between 25 and 26° C (77 and 79° F) in inland
plains, a common characteristic of other plain territories of the
country. Rainfall figures are among the lowest of Cuban plain regions,
with values of annual average rainfall ranging from 800 to 1000
mm (31 to 39 in), towards the center of Cauto plain and that formed
by rivers Tacajó and Nipe, and rising towards more elevated
zones reaching values varying from 1000 to 1200 mm (39 to 47 in).
For almost all of the extension of the Cauto river basin, average
rainfall during the dry period (November-April) is very low, less
than 200 mm, actually one of the lowest in Cuba.
